Te Waipounamu Kapa Haka Competitions 2008

The ground trembled and walls vibrated with the passion and energy of kapahaka at Cowles Stadium over Labour Weekend. 480 performers of all ages shared their love for their culture with their whanau. Such was the atmosphere that people were loath to head home and as hosts, we were sorry to bid them farewell.
From the deep south of Murihiku to the sunny beaches of Whakatu, people came, supporting their tamariki, their rangatahi, and their pakeke who stood on the stage during the full day of competitions, and then waited with anticipation as results were read out on Sunday.
